cereta's LJ: Madeline L'Engle passed away, and it doesn't seem to be anywhere else in the news. I can't believe this doesn't rate any news anywhere except for a brief (very brief) mention on the PW web site.
ETA: My favorites of her books: A Swiftly Tilting Planet and A Wrinkle in Time.

Thanks for posting this--it is weird that I hadn't seen anything about it before this; especially given that usually, as with, say, Lloyd Alexander, the news travels much faster.

From what I understand from the comments of the obit, they heard about her passing just before their deadline this morning, and so are still putting together a more fitting tribute.
Thank you for posting this. Her writing has always been a source of inspiration and wonder to me, from childhood favorites like the Wrinkle in Time series to 'A Ring of Endless Light' which moved me with its poetry and brought light into a dark time in my life.
She is worthy of honor.
My favourite book by her is The Young Unicorns, followed by A Wind in the Door. She had such a great influence on me as I grew up that I find it difficult to even measure it.
She helped open so many children's minds to new possibilities--including mine.
*sniff*
But Madeleine L'Engle's works have been "with" me my entire life. Certain Women is one of my other favorites.
Like most, she was a very early influence on me. I first read Wrinkle in Time when I bought it in 6th grade when buying books through the Scholastic Book Club. I think I even have that same edition someplace.
I think I'll read some to the baby tonight.
I loved "Wrinkle in Time" and still read it every couple years or so. However, her "A Ring of Endless Light" means the most to me. I read it right after my grandfather died, and the cycle of life that's in the book just really hit a chord.
So sad.
I always thought it fascinating that she was married to Dr. Tyler.
