Books I've enjoyed lately:

The Secret Portrait by Lillian Stewart Carl This was a murder mystery with ghost story elements set in modern day Scotland. I really love old fashioned haunted house mystery/ghost stories, and Lillian is the only person I know writing them. Ashes to Ashes is another great one, and she also writes fantasy.

Irons in the Fire by Juliet E. McKenna (jemck) The book won't be out until later this year, but I got to read the galley and really enjoyed the writing. I'm definitely going to go look for the other books set in this world.

I saw on arcaedia's LJ that God Stalk by P.C. Hodgell is being re-released in a new edition with Dark of the Moon. I read God Stalk when it was first released in 1983 and I think it was a big influence on me. It's a rich, gorgeous dark fantasy.

Yes, that book.

And Seeker's Bane! YAY! My internalized and choked back squeeing is actually hurting my throat. (At work on break.)

P.C. Hodgell is one of my husband's favorite authors, which is how I finally got to read her... and couldn't believe I hadn't done so sooner, except for the part where she's not well-known or exceptionally prolific.

All of Hodgell's books are quite interesting....I'm ansioulsy waiting for the next one ;o) (But as she's a fairly slow writer, it doesn't do to hold one's breath.)

I love P. C. Hodgell's books and got all of them in the MeishaMerlin versions before the publisher went bust. She's actually got an LJ account as well, as tagmeth, where she talks about her books and other stuff.

Oh cool, I didn't realize she had an LJ. Thanks for letting me know!
