Question, Links, and Giveaway

It's been a very lazy weekend, but I really need to get back to work today.

Question from Twitter from @mgarcialogan:

I really enjoyed City of Bones, do you plan to ever turn that into a series? Or write a sequel?

At this point, I don't think so. I did have a sequel planned in 1996 but moved to a new publisher and it never got written. (City of Bones was my second novel, and it came out in 1995 from Tor. It's been out of print probably since the late 90s, until I reprinted it myself in ebook in 2007.)

Couple of reviews:

A neat link:

Giveaway:

For the people who are at home today, or just on the internet today: comment on this post to enter a drawing for a signed copy of The Serpent Sea, the sequel to The Cloud Roads. I'll give away at least three copies, depending on the number of entries, and you have until tomorrow at about this time to enter. Entrants from outside the US are fine.

COB isn't my favorite by you... that remains DEATH OF THE NECROMANCER, for so many reasons, not least of which being, how many books allow you to see a Holmes/Moriarty adventure where Moriarty is the hero, and he and Holmes have to team up to fight an evil undead wizard?... but I enjoyed it a lot. You evoked the setting... a desert city where water is currency... really well, but that's a trademark for you and Barbara Hambly, the writer you most remind me of.

Ooooh, I'm home, and on the internet!

As a side note, City of Bones was the first book of yours I ever read, I used to make everyone read it! :D

If I enter these drawings enough, I'm sure I'll eventually win something. Please sign me up! :)

Nice timing - I just finished The Cloud Roads at the end of the week, and need to get The Serpent Sea...

I'd love a copy of the Serpent Sea :)

Hey, what the heck, I'll comment for a shot at a signed book!! It also gives me a chance to yawp resoundingly about how excited I am regarding your upcoming YA steampunk book. Swear to Crom, that one is gonna be HUGE!! (I can tell that just from the description alone!!) Prepare to have millions of young readers joining with those of us who already know how awesome a writer you are. (I am NOT saying this to curry a shot at getting the book; I really do feel that way. My Top Five writers are Harlan Ellison, Alfred Bester, Stephen King, Edgar Rice Burroughs and you. Lovecraft, RE Howard and Lord Dunsany trail behind you)

Thank you very much, Kyle! That's great company to be in. :)

Love the Raksura books. Some of my favorites!

*does the happy dance*

I´m currently studying abroad on the other side of the world in Tenerife, Spain and decided to catch up on the latest happenings in the life of my favorite author. City of Bones was the third book of yours that I read and by far my favorite book of all time (from any author) so I am sad to hear that there won´t be a sequel. But I understand your reasons and am looking forward to exploring the new worlds you have to offer (though I´d love to visit Ile-Rien again!).

I´m trying to find an English copy of The Cloud Roads over here, though it is proving difficult. I can´t wait to snag one and dive into a brand new trilogy!

I hope this finds you well. Have a great day!

Thank you very much! :)

To get The Cloud Roads in Spain, your best bet may be at Amazon.es: http://www.amazon.es/Cloud-Roads-Books-Raksura-Martha/dp/1597802166/ref=tmm_pap_title_0/278-0226223-6764115?ie=UTF8&qid=1328804848&sr=1-11 They also have it in ebook.

You have a good day too!

I have to admit, I'm curious about what you might *do* as a sequel to City of Bones. It seems to me a nicely self-contained story; much as I love the setting and the characters, there don't seem to be any outstanding issues still begging for resolution. (I have much the same reaction to Wheel of the Infinite - love the setting, adore the characters, am not at all sure it needs a sequel.)

Also, please sign me up for the contest!

Sequels never go to waste. If you still have the notes for it, you never know; you may find yourself working on it when you need a break (to derail something else so that you can make a fresh approach).
