Stargate Monuments
I should start doing the wordcount thingy, so I can be horrified at my lack of progress.

New SGA novel: Working title Electric Boogaloo (thanks, [info]hellblazer :) )
Wordcount= 14,640

New Untitled Fantasy Thing:
Wordcount= 1,196

I'll feel more caught up when I'm at 20,000 on the SGA novel. But since I am missing MediaWest this year and will not be able to purchase Stargate teddy bears, or going to Wiscon like everybody else in the world, I have plenty of time to catch up this weekend.

And just for fun: Barbara Bauer. And the main site of Writer Beware is here

New SGA novel: Working title Electric Boogaloo

The idea of Rodney break-dancing just makes me laugh out loud, much to the amusement of my cubemates. ( I could see Aiden doing it, just for the humor value)

Credit where credit's due.
That's a joke that we started using years ago over on the message boards at CHUD; if memory serves (which it probably doesn't), it was coined by Dave Davis, one of their editors.

Any time a sequel got announced without (or sometimes even with) a title, it immediately got branded

*blinks*

Okay. That icon is just...all kinds of wrong. ;)

As for the other, this is SGA. 'Electric Boogaloo' doesn't seem nearly as strange as it should.

Whoa. Weird.
As I was saying,

It got tagged with [Title of the original movie] 2: Electric Boogaloo.

Re: Whoa. Weird.
Funny enough, a pair of friends of mine ([info]immlass and [info]mcroft) have threatened to one day come out with a sequel to their roleplaying campaign on the same name pattern.

I love the working title: New Untitled Fantasy Thing...

That icon is kind of like a bus-wreck. You want to look away, but you just can't...

Oooh, lovely that you're getting writing done. I wish I could be as disciplined; whenever I have a deadline seems to be exactly the time I "need" to do spring cleaning or decide to move to Seattle or something. *koff*

I can't wait to read the new SGA novel. Do you have a publication date for it yet, or is that totally up to the publishers once you turn in the finished ms?

Oh, and what does the rest of your year look like as far as con-going? Are you going to WriterCon? (Why, no, I'm not stalking you. Why would you think that? *koff*)

Oh yeah, it's amazing how much housecleaning I get done when I'm stuck on a plot point. :)

Actually if I get the ms turned in on time, and the publisher's schedule stays the same, the book should be out in December or January.

I'd love to do WriterCon, because it sounds like a blast, but I'm committed to Conestoga, and it's the week right after that. Maybe next year, I hope. I really want to do DragonCon some year, too, but it tends to conflict with WorldCon.

You really need to come to DragonCon, as it's the only con that I consistently get to go to.

I really really want to do DragonCon. And I really wish I'd been able to go when all the Firefly people were there, that would have been great.

There are Stargate teddy bears? That sounds...just...strangely irresistable. o_o

The amount of words you have to end up with to create a novel boggles. 20,000 words to me is a monumental accomplishment; I can't imagine being in a situation where that was just the start. *mildly awestruck*

There's a couple of different places that do them, but one lady in particular does absolutely wonderful ones. (And I don't even like normal ones.) She does a huge range of character bears from all different fandoms. I succumbed a few years ago and got the Hercules and Iolaus teddy bears. :)

The SGA books are supposed to be between 75,000 to 80,000 words, but they don't mind if you go a little long. I think Reliquary was about 82,000. That's actually the shortest book I'd ever written. Most of my others were between 125,000 and 150,000. In paperback book size, that's about 325-350 pages. (I think.)

Yeah, I'm not a huge teddy bear fan either, which was why it was weird having that "OMG teh cute!" reaction. :P Does the bear lady have a website that you know of? I'd be interested to see what they look like.

Most of my others were between 125,000 and 150,000

Gah. I can't even imagine. Is it hard to keep the word count down for the SGA books?

And, I'll stop bugging you now...

I have a vague memory of seeing a web site for her once, but I went looking again in the past couple of days and couldn't find one. There's a couple of other places that do fandom bears, but they aren't as good quality.

Yeah, it was a little hard to keep the word count down for Reliquary, but in the end I think 80,000 was about the right length for the story I had.

Hi. Sorry this is off topic, but I just found the "Buy Books Online" part of your website, and I suddenly wondered -- do you get royalties for ebooks? I recently bought and read ebook versions of your The Fall of Ile-Rien series (and loved them!), and I was surprised not to see that buying option listed on your website.

It looks like an official release of the books, but now I'm suddenly worried that I am depriving you of royalty money by buying them this way. I am sorry if that is the case...

I like buying ebooks, because I like to take a lot of books with me when I travel, and it's much easier to carry many books on my PDA than to lug around a whole suitcase full of books.

I'm really looking forward to your new SGA book! And the new untitled fantasy thing, as well. *g*

No, don't worry, that's fine. I'd have to dig out my contracts to see how much I get, but I think I get something. :) There are links to the ebooks on the Amazon listings, so I didn't bother to include them on that page. I probably should, though.

And thanks, glad you liked the Fall of Ile-Rien!

Are you allowed to release any information about New Untitled Fantasy Thing? Another novel, maybe? I'm not a big SGA fan- I'm not really into fandom at all, actually. I don't dislike it, I've just never really gotten into it. I'll probably track down yours, though, cause I like your writing, but if this New Untitled Fantasy Thing is a new stand-alone novel, or the begining of a new series, you've definitely got at least one fan who'd love to hear it. : )

Well, I'm allowed, but there's really no information to release. :) It will eventually be a stand-alone novel, but it's not sold to a publisher, so it may never be published.

*gigglement at working title* :oP

I really enjoyed 'Reliquary' and can't wait for the next book to come out. Y'know, 80,000 words seems like a lot said like that, until I realise that I actually read the whole book in one day - heh, I was sick, I lazed in bed with tea, prescription drugs, a box of tissues and a book - that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. :oD

Personally, I just look at word counts at the moment and hide in a corner. I've been beasting away at an original story idea for a while now, and by while, I mean about 2 years, between working jobs I've despised. And now I'm unemployed and have loads of time on my hands, nothing's doing. Bleh! Not to mention the several fics I have going that I keep hoping people will forget about. I just keep opening various files, looking and closing them, or worse reading something I did write and thinking "Oh dear God, what was I thinking..."

I should take up yours and [info]z_rayne's habit and clean when I'm stuck...the place would be spotless. Alas, I digress, I usually end up just sitting here surfing the web...it's not like I have deadlines anyway - I write for the pleasure of it rather than for a living.

Thanks very much, glad you liked Reliquary! And glad it kept you company while you were sick. Actually, I pretty much write for pleasure, too; it's too much work to just do it because you have to. ;)
