Boosting the signal: queenoftheskies is going to be posting an SF/F novel for donations, so she can make her May rent money while she's interviewing for new jobs and waiting for California to send her unemployment check. Her family may be evicted if she can't raise the $500 rent money. This is one of those situations where if a lot of people donate a few dollars, you can really help a fan/aspiring writer in need. The profile page of the LJ where the novel will posted is here, with the paypal donation button.

We barbequed a brisket yesterday for a few friends, and the rain held off long enough for us to sit outside in the backyard. It was a really nice day, finished off by watching the new Doctor Who episode. It's been thunderstorming and pouring rain today.

I finished Soulless and liked it, even though I was expecting more fantasy adventure, and it turned out to be more category romance. (I like category romance, especially regencies and historicals, just not when I'm expecting adventure/fantasy.) Also, I had issues with the steam-engine-powered dirigibles, but that's probably just me. (Like I enjoyed Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow except for the fortress where the field of fire of the anti-aircraft guns included the place where their own airships were moored.) Anyway, I've got Changeless and I'm looking forward to it.

Speaking of which, there's a new Amelia Peabody novel out: A River in the Sky by Elizabeth Peters. If you like Victorian archeological adventure with romance and a heroine who will not take crap, you should check out Amelia Peabody. The first book is Crocodile on the Sandbank.
