Into the light

I was thinking about last Christmas, and remembering how my husband had been officially laid off (though his boss was letting him work through December), our friend who was spending Christmas with us had been laid off, and my book had been unsuccessfully making the publisher rounds for close to a year and a half. I'd finished writing two more books, but wasn't too enthusiastic about their chances either.

This year, my husband has a new job, our friend has a new job, and The Cloud Roads and The Serpent Sea are sold. So yes, I think I've got a lot to be relieved about this year.

jmtohline: The Biggest Mistakes Writers Make When Querying Agents A few weeks ago, I emailed about 100 literary agents, asking them a simple question: What is the single biggest mistake writers make when querying you?

Black Gate has a post about the holiday discounts at, and the books available there. The reprint editions of The Element of Fire and City of Bones are also on sale there and discounted.

So happy to hear the fates are smiling upon you!

I'm so glad 2010 wrapped up with a flourish for you! *hug*

It's been a good year. Congrats.

May next year bring even better stuff for you and yours!

I'm glad this year is better ;o)

What a wonderful difference a year can make!

Congratulations! Nice to see that things have gotten better for all of you. Incidentally HPLHS do two full CD's worth of Solstice Carols (I have both), as well as songbooks and choral arrangements for "Carol of the Great Old Ones" and such. Definitely worth checking out!

Thanks! :)

Did they ever do any films? I saw a short b&w film several years ago at a convention, a faux documentary about a movie company's attempt to film a Lovecraft story, that was absolutely hilarious. I think it was made by a Lovecraft fan organization, but I've never see anything else about it.

Yes, they've done a number of films - including one on the attempt to produce a "Shoggoth on the Roof" musical, which sounds a bit like what you describe. Have a look at as it has information on all their films, music, props, etc. I have bought several of the T-shirts and such as presents for friends.

Thanks, I'll check it out! I know some people who would probably love the t-shirts.
